Chief Scientist
Job Summary
Chief Scientist is a newly created research position for Novel. Novel is one of the leading companies in the gaming industry working on applying massively multi-player gaming technology to individual/team assessment, evaluation and development in business setting. Chief Scientist works on designing and deploying gaming simulations that are both engaging and rooted in behavioral science.
Chief Scientist works on game simulation systems that include a broad range of applications from recruitment to employee leadership, assessment, and career development. The Chief Scientist will enter Novel at an exciting time when the company is building the foundation for a whole new line of business enterprise simulations. The person in this position will also work with leading scientists at the UW Foster School of Business Center for Leadership & Strategic Thinking.
Essential Functions
- Develop effective, legally defensible employee selection, development and evaluation systems. These systems will provide job candidates with realistic job previews, determine which candidates are a good fit for the hiring organization, and assist with the actual selection and development of candidates
- Create tools and applications for existing employee career and leadership development
- Conduct basic and applied research to determine the validity and reliability of online simulation technologies that will be used in assessment, development and evaluation
- Work with a diverse creative team to manage the functional responsibilities above
- Hire and lead team to help with functional responsibilities above
- Manage and work on other projects assigned by the company
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Education
- Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or Equivalent Fields, e.g. HR Management
Work Experience
- Preferably several years of work experience in the field prior to, during or following completion of doctoral work
Capabilities
- Able to plan, design, implement and evaluate complex projects
- Proficient in advanced statistics and research methods. e.g.
- Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or
- Statistical Analysis Software (SAS)
- Regression
- Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
- Experimental Methods
- Mixed Methods
- Statistical modeling such as Structural Equations Modeling (S.E.M.) and Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM)
- Working knowledge of research and specific applications (e.g., tests, surveys, situational interviews, behavioral interviews, assessment centers, performance management systems, personality testing) that are used to recruit, select, develop and evaluate individual employees and teams
- Proficient in technical writing, such as developing research reports
- Proficient in providing highly effective presentations for small and large audiences
- Proficient in working collaboratively with individuals from a broad range of disciplines and backgrounds.
Pluses
- Working knowledge of business fundamentals such as accounting, budgeting and financial resource allocation
- Working knowledge of relevant employment laws
- Experience working across different cultures
- Ability to conceptualize and clearly articulate company and product vision to a diverse set of stakeholders within both the practice and academic community
- Ability to develop a strong professional network in the academic/social science community
